Nevertheless, the couple are back as PADRE's soldiers two episodes later, and are willing to put Morgan, Grace and another child's life on the line to save their own. It's an understandable observation, albeit one they should've noticed years ago. In "Blue Jay," they come to the conclusion that they need to take their son Finch away from PADRE because of how much it reminds them of the Sanctuary. Sure, Shrike promises that clearing the shipyard is the next step toward civilization and preventing more deaths, but Mo's whole goal for the past few episodes is to have a family. Mo explains her decision as a way to not feel the pain of losing a parent anymore. This is the same Shrike who denied Grace treatment and did everything in her power to keep Mo separated from her family. After Mo's mother Grace dies in "More Time Than You Know," she joins Shrike and her prefects to clear the shipyard of walkers. One would accept it as par for the course of just learning her whole life has been a lie, but "More Time Than You Know" has her making some baffling decisions with no support. One moment she's a spokesperson for PADRE's philosophy, another she's working against them so that she can have a real family. Since being introduced after the time jump as an eight-year-old in Episode 1, "Remember What They Took From You," Mo's motivations and desires have been wildly inconsistent. But for Mo in particular, it just seems like no imagination has been applied whatsoever. For it to be an apocalyptic situation that is beyond imagination, no one can say for certain how a child would adapt to the harsh reality of Fear the Walking Dead. As adults, it's difficult to imagine oneself as a child and how they would act in this situation. Let's put this out there first: it's not easy writing children for television.
